SELF CLEANING TANKS

Oceans Design is the sole U.S. manufacturer of commercial self cleaning tanks for high density larval culture. Many species of fish larvae require a frequent supply of micro-diet feed in order to wean them from live feeds to dry diet. The majority of this feed isn't consumed by the larvae and sinks to the tank bottom where it will form large bacterial mats if not cleaned regularly. Because many marine species are cultured using green water techniques, it is difficult to see the tank bottom and during cleaning many viable larvae are killed in the cleaning process.

Our self cleaning tanks utilize two wipers to keep your tank clean. The first extends from the tank center to the side wall to clean the floor and the second extends up the side of the tank to clean the tank wall. The wiper rotates approximately 1.5 times an hour depositing waste into a trough extending from the tank center to the side wall. Uneaten feed, feces, and dead larvae are easily siphoned from this trough in seconds. The tank bottom is left clean of debris and potentially harmful biofilms are kept to a minimum. Cleaning commercial sized larval tanks is labor intensive and can take a technician hours to clean multiple tanks. Our self cleaning tanks reduce this labor requirement down to minutes while providing a tank that is clean of debris.

Our self cleaning tanks are available in several configurations.


All wetted materials are either PVC, 316L stainless steel, titanium or fiberglass depending on model chosen. Support tube is 6061 powder coated aluminum. Tanks can supplied with leveling legs to ensure the floor is perfectly flat for proper operation.

Center Draining units include two PVC stand pipes, 3 pairs of sonic welded screens as well as two rigid black mesh cores to support the mesh screens. Mesh sizes vary per species and are available from 40-2000 microns.

Side Draining models can be supplied with fittings to support Oceans Design's Easy Slide Screen Boxes. These screen boxes increase surface area , lowering velocity, and come equipped with bubble screens to keep larvae safely away from drains. Boxes are CNC machined for tight tolerances and also come with dual screen tracks to make screen changes easy, rapid and eliminate any loss of larvae during cleanings. Boxes mount to tank wall to hang inside tank.
